An Implementation of Standards-Based Grading in a Large Linear Algebra Class

Speaker

  • Rose Morris-Wright (Middlebury College)

Details

Standards-based grading is an evaluation method that reduces student anxiety and motivates learning, while maintaining rigorous standards. In this talk, I will describe how I implemented this new system in a linear algebra class (~400 students). This will include the motivations for the change, the logistical details of how the change was implemented, results and feedback from students, how this will inform my teaching going forward. I will also discuss variations on this system and how it could be incorporated into other courses.
