In this workshop/lecture, we’ll explore ways to structure in-class learning activities: how we might lead an IBL activity, or even an entire IBL course. In addition, we’ll learn how the speaker wound up using IBL to teach a class on isomorphisms of quotient groups in a bagel shop.
Interactive Engagement in the classroom can take many forms: Inquiry Based Learning, Think-Pair-Share, Flipped classrooms, and more. And beyond being a totally trendy pedagogical innovation, interactive engagement increasingly has demonstrated improved outcomes in student learning and retention of mathematics and science. This workshop will attempt to help participants increase their ability to put theory into practice within their own courses.
